U13 table tennis boys are S’wak’s best bet

KUCHING: Sarawak are targeting to win one gold and one silver in the 31st Milo Hope Table Tennis Championsh­ips in Sabah from Nov 29 to Dec 2.

Fielding 21 players for the Boys/ Girls U13 and U10 singles, doubles and team events, Sarawak are banking on the Boys U13 team to reap gold and Boys U13 singles to deliver the silver.

The target for the rest of the categories is to reach at least the semi-finals.

Sarawak are drawn with Labuan, Sabah and Perak in the Boys U13 Group B while the Girls U13 team have Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Kedah in Group S.

They will contend with Selangor, Terengganu and Kelantan in Group F for the Boys U10 while in Group Y for Girls U10 comprises Penang, Sarawak, Labuan and Perlis.

The Sarawak contingent, led by Table Tennis Associatio­n of Sarawak ( TTAS) president Michael Teo and contingent leader Datuk Yii Chi Hao, called on Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n CEO cum Sarawak State Sports Council director Dr Ong Kong Swee yesterday for the f lag presentati­on.

Ong advised the players not to feel over-pressured but instead to enjoy themselves as they try their best.

Table Tennis, he added, has always been one of the state’s strong sports and received strong support as he rallied the paddlers to rise to the occasion and do Sarawak proud.
