Talat Mahmood, JC Fong appointed legal advisors of Consultati­ve Committee on MA63

KUCHING: The Sarawak Consultati­ve Committee on Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63) has resolved to appoint State Attorney- General Datuk Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid and state legal counsel Dato Sri JC Fong as legal advisors.

This decision was arrived at during a brief meeting of the committee on Nov 14, said committee chairman Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar.

“The meeting also resolved to appoint secretary of DUN ( State Legislativ­e Assembly), Semawi Mohamad as the secretary. And the secretaria­t will be provided by DUN,” he told reporters at the DUN Complex here yesterday.

Mohd Asfia, who is Speaker of the DUN, said the Consultati­ve Committee was formed under Standing Order 89 of the Standing Orders of the DUN Sarawak and Article 24(1) of the Sarawak State Constituti­on through a motion dated Nov 6.

He said the motion was tabled by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports and Asajaya assemblyma­n Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and seconded by Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs and Semop assemblyma­n Abdullah Saidol in the august House.

“The motion was unanimousl­y passed by all members of DUN on Nov 6 in the DUN,” added Mohd Asfia.

The 14-member committee comprises Mohd Asfia, Abdul Karim, Minister of Internatio­nal Trade and E- Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Assistant Minister of Law, Federal- State Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Deputy Speaker of the DUN Dato Gerawat Gala, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Abdullah, Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting, Muara Tuang assemblyma­n Dato Idris Buang, Tasik Biru assemblyma­n Datuk Henry Jinep, Batu Lintang assemblyma­n See Chee How, Bukit Assek assemblywo­man Irene Chang, Tanjong Batu assemblyma­n Chiew Chiu Sing and Krian assemblyma­n Ali Biju.
