MP gets ticking off for ‘unfair comparison’

-

KUCHING: Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep has ticked off Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol for making unfair comparison involving allocation to Muslim and nonMuslim groups adding he should instead seek fund from the federal government to help improve the wellbeing of Sarawakians now that he is a federal government MP.

Asking the DAP representative to get his priority right, Henry who is also PDP supreme council member said Mordi was only out to score political mileage for making an unfair and sweeping statement.

“Making sweeping statement like Mordi did is unfair on the Sarawak government. Mordi should be helping to ask for fund from his Pakatan Harapan federal government instead of politicking because the accumulated fund later on can be of good use.

This is for the benefit of the people, not individuals seeking publicity,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Henry said it is good enough that the Sarawak government via Chief Minister’s Office had set up the Unit for Other Religions ( Unifor) which on record is the first ever such government agency in Malaysia.

Then it is also good enough that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to allocate RM30 million to Unifor next year to enable it to address some pertinent issues and settle grouses of the non-Muslims.

“I also query YB Mordi’s motive in making comparison? Why compare unnecessary when you ( Mordi) can complement the State government by asking for fund for Unifor?” Henry asked.

The bone of contention was that Mordi in a recent press statement said that the RM30 million for Unifor for the whole of 2019 is far too little for numerous religious groups in Sarawak when the Chief Minister could easily fork out RM9 million just for the building of a mosque in Serian.
