Good Samaritans donate food aid to PDK Bau

-

KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans from Kuching recently raised funds to assist Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) Bau, which currently provides care to 65 special needs children.

PDK Bau supervisor Nancy Stella Paulus and several of her colleagues went to Kuching recently to collect the contributions from the group’s representative, voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw at his home here.

Lim said Nancy and her colleagues brought back rice, sugar, cooking oil and other edible items to the centre located at Kampung Suba Bandar near the Bau Hospital.

“This is the first time we are assisting PDK Bau. We have assisted other PDKs in Serian, Siniawan and Kampung Serasot.

“” I thank the donors who responded to my request to this PDK to reduce its expenditure. We believe in helping the deserving people irrespective of race or creed,” said Lim, a retired marine police personnel now devoted to charity work.

On a related matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082-248153 or 016- 8070388 to assist poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member. He explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request was received.

So far, such assistance had been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of Kuching- Serian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

“The donors may have done this out of an old Chinese belief that this could reverse their bad luck, such as to revive or boost their business. Nonetheless, buying coffins for others is also a commendable act especially in the charity and welfare aspect,” he said.

He also reminded the public that he can be reached only through his fixed line and mobile phone numbers, as he does not have Facebook, WeChat or any other social media account.
