Long, strong arm of the law lifts Chief Minister’s Cup

-

LIMBANG: Saka Biru, the Royal Malaysia Police Bukit Aman headquarters team, proved that their long and strong arms are good in reeling in criminals as well as opponents on the sports field. They lived up to their billing as the team to beat by winning the Limbang International Tugof-War championship at Limbang Sports Complex on Sunday.

The policemen carried off the Sarawak Chief Minister Challenge Trophy and RM 15,000 cash prize.

Runner-up New Born team from Sabah took home RM8,000.

MBSA Shah Alam and Apache Labuan were third and fourth respectively in the tournament which attracted 27 teams from Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak and other states.

Prizes were given out by Sarawak Backbenchers Club chairman and Batu Danau state assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.

Also present were Limbang Division Tug- of-War Association deputy president Pedi Amit, Limbang Resident representative Aspalela Shamuni and Limbang Youth and Sports officer Margaret Sawing.

Paulus noted that the event, which was a brainchild of Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Bukit Kota state assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail 11 years ago, has grown to become an annual attraction in Limbang.

Its stature has led to spin- offs which benefitted the tourism sector and local economy, he added.

He urged other associations to emulate Limbang Division Tugof-War Association in helping to promote Limbang as a sports destination in the country.
