Set aside politics, have students’ interest at heart, says Ting

MIRI: Politics need to be put aside when it comes to education, says Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting.

He believes it is important that all elected representatives, regardless of political affiliation, have the best interest of the students at heart when it comes to matters pertaining to their welfare and wellbeing.

“In terms of allocation, I believe the government will usually allocate a high budget for education, so we must continue to do this. There is no need to politicise education because these children are our future.

“I believe it would be better for politicians from both sides (government and opposition) to work together for the betterment of our country and our children, especially in terms of education,” he said during his visit to SMK Lutong here yesterday.

The visit was to check on the progress of upgrading works at the school under the Rural Transformation Project ( RTP). Apart from SMK Lutong, Ting also visited SJK( C) Chung Hua Lutong and SK Pulau Melayu for similar checks.

The RM150,000-project announced by the Sarawak government for SMK Lutong involves the upgrading of an academic block and boarding block for male students.

Principal Michael Bus said the two dilapidated blocks were in need of urgent upgrading.
