SIBU: Social Security Organisation ( Socso) Sibu has paid out RM4.510 million in compensations between January and November this year involving 1,804 cases, its branch manager Tan Phang Chia disclosed here yesterday.

This figure marked a decrease of RM288,000 or down nine per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

“Out of this year’s amount, permanent disablement constitutes the biggest payout amounting to RM2 million or 45.67 per cent involving 93 cases,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

Tan added up to October this year, Socso Sibu paid compensations totalling RM1.663 million for temporary disablement involving 1,248 cases.

For last year, the total amount of payouts for temporary and permanent disablement was RM4.058 million, he said.

On ‘Ops Kesan’ this year, he said Socso Sibu checked 138 employers.

“Seventeen compounds were issued during the operation with nine for failure to register new companies under Section 4 of Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 and the remaining eight for failure to register new employees under Section 5 ( of the same Act) with Socso,” Tan added.

Meanwhile, he called on taxi and Grab drivers to register under the Self- Employment Social Security Act 2017.

He said this is to avoid unnecessary legal implications for non- compliance.

Tan lamented that the response from these groups has not been encouraging.
