Stamps and Numismatics Fair at Wisma Saberkas till Dec 4
KUCHING: Stamp collectors and numismatics enthusiasts should check out the on-going Stamps and Numismatics Fair at Wisma Saberkas shopping mall here.
Admission to the fair from 10am to 9pm until Dec 4 is free.
The fair features historical stamps, banknotes, coins, government documents and company agreements before the formation of Malaysia.
“By studying these historical documents, we can get a better understanding of how businesses were conducted back in the old days,” Philatelic Society of Kuching Sarawak president Dr Ong Liap Teck told reporters yesterday.
Organised by the society, the biannual event aims to act as a platform to gather buyers and sellers for the sale of their exceptional wares besides sharing knowledge and registering new members.
Members of the public who possessed historical items can have them valued by dealers at the fair.
“While the valuation service is free- ofcharge, it’s up to the public to decide how much their historical items are worth,” said Ong.
Those interested to join the society may register as members at the fair with RM30 annual membership fee or lifetime membership fee of RM150.
Ong added that the society also organises weekend gatherings where members and non-members can auction their collection at Taiwan Siaw Jou Restaurant at Lorong Taman Hui Sing 3 here.
The society is supported by the Sarawak state government while Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is its patron.
