Ting siblings share honours at internatio­nal junior golf championsh­ip

KUCHING: Golfing siblings Mirabel Ting Ern Hui and Malcolm Ting Siong Hung emerged as overall champions in the 20th Sarawak Internatio­nal Junior Golf Championsh­ip 2018 held at Damai Golf and Country Club ( DGCC) here.

Mirabel was crowned champion in the Girls’ B category after she carded an impressive three- day total gross score of 13 under par 203 while her 16-year- old brother won the Boys’ A category with a three-day total gross score of three under par 213.

During the final round, Sukma golfer Mirabel from Miri Golf Club continued her dominance by returning the day with a three under par 69 while Asha Nabela Abdul Rahman from Sarawak Golf Club trailed in second placing with six strokes adrift while Nabilah Alifuddin from Nexus Karambunai Sabah finished in third.

For Malcolm, also a Sukma golfer, carded a gross score of two under par 70 in the final, leaving behind fellow teammate Matthew Ong in second with three strokes adrift while Benjamin Ethan was placed third.

Sarawak junior golfer Anson Yeo Boon Xiang from Samarahan Golf Club (SGC) topped the Boys’ C category with a three- day gross score of six over par 222 strokes on countback.

Syady Sheikh Ismail from Bukit Berang Johor finished in second while Wan Muhammad Danial from Tiara Melaka Golf Club was third with 11 strokes.

SGC golfer Wesley Chai won the Boys’ B category after he carded a three- day total gross score of 232 while Lo Tieng Ming of Sabah Gol f and Country Club came in second with eight strokes adrift and finishing in third placing was Irvyn Tan Sheng Kang of Singapore Golf Associatio­n, 247 strokes on countback.

Junior golfers from Thailand also shared the limelight in the final round after they won the Girls’ D, Girls’ C and Boys’ D categories.

Over 110 golfers from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia took part in this year’s event which was organised by Sarawak Golf Associatio­n (SGA) and held at DGCC for the first time.

Both Mirabel and Malcolm received trophies from Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who was ac companied by Sarawak Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n ( SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and his wife Datuk Patinggi Puan Sri Lorna Enan Muloon.
