PASC supreme in inter-club championsh­ip

KUCHING: Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) of Kuching stamped their supremacy in the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai Inter- Club Swimming Championsh­ip at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya yesterday.

The team managed by Voon Yen Yen amassed 1,033.5 points to be crowned the overall champions while their closest rivals Kuching Amateur Swimming Associatio­n ( Kasa) 2010 collected 483.5 points for the runners-up position.

In third place were defending champions Sibu Amateur Swimming Associatio­n (Sasa) who collected 429.5 points while Royal Brunei Recreation Club ( RBRC) and Sea Dragon Swimming Club from Sabah tied for fourth spot with 270 points each.

Finishing sixth to 11th were Bintulu Amateur Swimming Associatio­n (170 points), ISTIO Swimming Club of Johor (101), Serian Amateur Swimming Associatio­n ( 96), Miri Amateur Swimming Associatio­n ( 92), Persatuan Renang Labuan ( 89) and Power Penguin Swimming Club (36.5).

PASC, who clinched the best boys team and best girls team awards, claimed more honours when they won six out of the 10 best swimmers awards.

They were Dylan Leong Yi Quan who bagged eight gold medals and broke eight meet records in Boys Group E, Hii Puong Jie who won four gold, one silver and one bronze in Group C, his elder brother Puong Wei who also won eight gold and broke two records in Group B and Zachary Adam Tan Kian Phen who captured three gold, one silver and one bronze and broke one record in Group A.

The best boy in Group D was Zeke Chan of RBRC who splashed to six gold and two silver.

PASC’s Kelly Teo was adjudged the best girl swimmer in Group C after she won six gold and two silver while elder sister Natasha was Group B’s best swimmer with four gold and one bronze.

The other best girl swimmers were Nur Syaziellah Tsen Sey Jing of Persatuan Renang Labuan in Group E with five gold, three new records and three silver; Kayley Goh of RBRC in Group D with seven gold and one silver; and Leong Wan Mei of MASA with three gold, one silver and one bronze.

More than 30 0 swimmers representi­ng 12 teams from Johor, Labuan, Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak took part in the prest igious championsh­ip organised by Amateur Swimming Associatio­n fo Sarawak (ASAS) and hosted by Kasa 2010.

A total of 19 new records were created in the one and a half day meet that was supported by the Sarawak State Sports Council.

ASAS president Dato Wee Hong Seng, who closed the event, gave away the prizes.

Also present was Kasa 2010 president Frankie Lau who was also the event organising chairman.
