S’wak must be led by her own, not controlled by outsiders — Dennis

-

MIRI: Sarawakians must take it upon themselves to ensure that Sarawak is led by local-based parties instead of being ‘controlled’ by those from Peninsular Malaysia.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said in this context, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is the best vehicle as it is made up fully of Sarawak-based parties and led by those who have the best interest of Sarawakians at heart.

Commenting on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( Bersatu) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed’s statement on the possibility of a change in the Sarawak government come the next state election, Dennis said the prime minister’s words reflected someone who was not sincere in helping Sarawak reclaim its rights.

“Sarawakians must learn from the past 50 years and decide our own destiny. My wish is for Pakatan Harapan ( PH) parties not to come to Sarawak to play too much politics, which could divide us as Sarawakians,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He added: “Sarawak has been kind to Peninsular Malaysia all the while because we ‘allowed’ them to use our state’s resources to develop their states.

“Maybe Tun Dr Mahathir didn’t realise this during his 22-year rule – that Sarawak did not get her fair share of money from petroleum and gas resources.”

Dennis further stated that Sarawak is fortunate to have a ‘visionary’ chief minister in Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who sees the need to develop new revenue streams for Sarawak to the tune of billions of ringgit in order to accelerate development.

He also reminded Sarawakians not to be easily influenced by whatever promises made by the PH as the coalition has failed to fulfill many of the promises made in its general election manifesto.

“I hope the people of Sarawak are more mature and not be easily played out by these group of politicians, who only want to champion their own causes and not the people’s interests.”
