Karim casts doubt on Bersatu’s future in Sarawak

-

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has poured cold water on the ability of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( Bersatu) to make inroads in Sarawak.

He said looking at the people claiming to be promoters and local leaders of Bersatu Sarawak, he sees mostly dejected members of components of Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) and businesspersons hoping to get federal contracts from the Pakatan Harapan government.

He believed that this group of people couldn’t care less about who would govern Sarawak.

“I wish them well but Sarawakians are now more politically matured. No amount of carrot danglings and honey coated promises will change them.

“True Sarawakians will not betray and be a traitor to Sarawak, whether one is a Native, Malay or Chinese,” he said yesterday on the Bersatu Sarawak’s launch in Bintulu on Saturday.

He also commented on what seemed a smaller crowd than expected at the event held at Bintulu Civic Centre which was officiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is also Bersatu chairman.

“Tun Mahathir and his team who came to Bintulu could clearly see the hundreds of empty chairs in the hall despite local organisers claiming that they have seen an avalance of new memberships.

“We will see in the next State Election, whether S’wakians are still true and true with Sarawak- based party or they will sell their soul to Malayan-based party,” he said.
