Two urban poor families receive aid from Good Samaritans

-

KUCHING: Two urban poor families are the latest recipients of contributions from a group of Good Samaritans to lighten their burden.

The group’s representative Lim Chee Haw recently handed over food and other essential daily items to the families at Kampung Stampin and KMC Flats here.

In Kampung Stampin, he presented items comprising food and adult diapers to the family’s matriach Lua Kilat. According to Lim, Lua’s husband is a dailypaid labourer earning low wages and barely enough to support the family including their two schoolgoing children.

Lua could not go out to work as she has to take care of her motherin-law.

Meanwhile, the recipient’s family staying at KMC Flats are in a predicament because the family’s patriach identified only as Mr Chan is now visually impaired due to health complications and could not work.

“We have been helping these families a few times already, thanks to information given to use by our friend, Madam Tan.

“I have lived in poverty and hardship in my younger years, and I understand their predicament. That is why I made it a point in my life to help others in need when I am older and had achieved some level of success,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel now devoted to doing charity work.

On a related matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082248153 or 016- 8070388 to assist poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member.

He explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request was received.

So far, such assistance had been rendered to families in Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 in Kuching- Serian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

“The donors may have done this out of an old Chinese belief that this could reverse their bad fortune, such as to revive or boost their businesses. Nonetheless, buying coffins for others is also a commendable act especially in the charity and welfare aspect,” he said.
