KUCHING: A total of 550 people from all walks of life took part in the Go Go Green Run 2018 here yesterday to raise awareness on the importance of conserving the environment.

The run, organised by Go Go Green Association with support from Sarawak Cable Berhad, was divided into the 3km and 7km categories.

A warm-up session was held for the participants before the start of the run in the vicinity of the Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) building where Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin delivered a brief address.

We should keep our environment clean. I fully support the green objective of this run which is to create environmental awareness among our people.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) elected representative lauded the participants for supporting the environmental run.

“We should keep our environment clean. I fully support the green objective of this run which is to create environmental awareness among our people.

“Going green means not only being involved in recycling efforts. It is much more than that. It is living life as an individual and for the community to maintain ecological balance in the environment.

“It also means taking a stance, whether big or small, to minimise the harm we do to the environment including leaving behind carbon footprint,” he said.

Willie added it is important for the community to make it a point to conserve natural resources and energy, reduce consumption and waste as well as strive to protect the balance in the ecosystem.

He believed that when mankind sought to protect Earth’s ecosystem, they would also help preserve the harmony among all creatures living on the planet.

He said this would ensure that all creatures could stay put in their original habitat.

“To go green, you should not overconsume. And it is not just food but everything else. In addition, you should also encourage those around you to do the same.

“For instance, keep an organic garden and educate our kids on the importance of going green.”

“Your commitment is commendable because you took the effort to participate in this run to help save our environment. We can’t do it alone,” he said.
