S’wakians uses 12GB monthly — among the highest data consumption in M’sia — Maxis
KUCHING: Sarawak is among the states in Malaysia that consume the most mobile data, says Maxis Bhd chief operating officer Gokhan Ogut.
According to him, Sarawakians are using more than 12GB per month – amongst the highest usage in the country.
“When we look at how they are consuming mobile data, more than 60 per cent are from video consumption where the users are using the Internet to view videos on entertainment, news and so on.“This is the consumption that (is) reflected in higher data usage,” he told reporters at Rivervale Condominium Lounge here yesterday, after representing Maxis at the signing of a letter of understanding ( LoU) with Sacofa on offering High Speed Broadband ( HSBB) Network Services to Maxis.
Sacofa was represented by its managing director Mohamed Zaid Zaini at the ceremony, which was witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
On the partnership, Gokhan said Maxis was delighted to be able to embark on this initiative with Sacofa as this would enable the service provider to extend its fibre broadband plans to more Sarawakians.
“By having access to a wider HSBB network with over 194,000 home passes expected over the next three years from this partnership, more Sarawakians can look forward to a superior Internet experience at home, while businesses in this region can reach their full potential with an ‘Always On’ connectivity for complete business continuity.”
Under the LoU, Maxis would have full access to Sacofa’s HSBB Network Services in Sarawak, which should enable the company to offer its already-available fibre plans to even more households and businesses.
The LoU would also enable Maxis to further expand its affordable broadband plans in Sarawak via Sacofa’s ‘ Fibre-ToThe-X’ ( FTTX) platform, ‘Sacofa Open Fibre Infra Access’ ( Sofia) – a turnkey solution that enables Internet service providers to linkup directly to Sacofa’s fibre- optic network and offer HSBB services to end- users at competitive rates.
