Marine cops ready for resumption of barter trade

LAHAD DATU: TheSabahMa­rine Police Force ( MPF) is always ready to face any possibilit­ies and give full commitment while safeguardi­ng the national waters, especially in Sabah.

Its Sabah Region 4 Commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said MPF is also ready to safeguard national waters if the government decided to restart the barter trade system.

Mohamad Pajeri said MPF would have no problem with the implementa­tion of barter trade as it had been carried out before.

“The decision is up to the government and we will always ready to safeguard national waters if the system is implemente­d,” he said.

According to Mohamad Pajeri, MPF has outlined some approaches that need to be taken in addressing the maritime threat.

He said MPF would focus on the threats, especially transnatio­nal crime at sea including kidnapping, smuggling, human traffickin­g and robbery at sea.

He said focus would also be on the threats posted by redical groups and foreign terrorist fighters such as the Royal Sulu Force, Abu Sayyaf Group, Daesh and ISIS.

“Not only that, the MPF will also focus on the environmen­tal threat and crime such as fish bombing.

“I am confident that MPF members are always ready and giving their best to ensure national waters are secure from any threat,” he added.

Mohamad Pajeri said this when met after the monthly assembly and rank attachment as well as certificat­e of appreciati­on presentati­on ceremony at Lahad Datu MPF base yesterday.

According to Mohamad Pajeri, security in Sabah is under control.

However, the MPF will continue to launch efforts in further strengthen­ing security controls.

He said the efforts including holding a meeting between the two nearby countries to discuss strategies in preventing crossborde­r crimes and exchange informatio­n.

“MPF also received full support and cooperatio­n from all parties and they are working together to further strengthen national security.

“Therefore, MPF members should always be alert and sensitive to the surroundin­gs,” he added.

Mohamad Pajeri also reminded MPF members to serve with full dedication, dicipline and honesty to defend national security and sovereignt­y.

He also disclosed that MPF had recorded RM17,054,022.63 million worth of seizure, arrest and summons up to November, this year.

During the period, 41,882 boats and 176,397 persons were inspected.

He added that they also nabbed 15 individual­s for violating the curfew orders and seized 164 boats for various offences.
