-

BELAGA: The Murum branch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) donated some essential items to the victims of a fire, which struck a longhouse at Mile 20 Tubau in Belaga recently.

According to Uma Bakong chieftain Martha Bilong, 30 units of the 47- door longhouse were burned down.

In his remarks, political secretary to the chief minister Michael Mujah Lihan, who is also PBB Murum chief, expressed his hope that the donation could ease the burden of the affected families.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy.

“Our group from PBB had planned to come down and distribute the goods immediately after the incident, but we were occupied with many activities that had been planned earlier.

“We also wanted to give way to the relevant agencies to respond and carry out their duties effectively in assisting the fire victims,” he said during the handover at the longhouse site on Monday.

Meanwhile, Martha expressed her gratitude to PBB Murum for providing the assistance.

“I also would like to thank the three political secretaries to the chief minister ( Michael, Petrus Igat and Jenny Banga) for their personal assistance of RM1,500 to 42 pupils – from Primary 1 to 6 – of SK Batu Keling Sungai Asap, Belaga,” she said.

Adding on, Martha said her committee had requested to the relevant authorities 50 water tanks for their longhouse, including those for their two churches and kindergarten, to facilitate their daily needs.

“We also hope that the relevant departments could come to our longhouse and assist 50 of our fellow villagers who are still holding temporary-resident identification cards, and 20 people who are holders of the red identification cards,” appealed Martha.
