SIBU: Desmond Ho Liang Hong was the toast of Sibu archery team when he bagged two gold medals at last weekend’s 14th Sarawak Indoor Archery Championship held in Kapit.

The 14-year- old student of SMK Tiong Hin won in the Recurve Men’s Open and Recurve Youth.

He swept aside 2018 Perak Sukma archer Liew Yu Wui 7-1 to lift the Open Recurve title.

In the youth category, he amassed 559 points to down Kong Ze Liang (543) and Liew (529).

Sibu Div i s ion A r c h e r y Associat ion ( Pemasa Sibu) secretary Eric Tiong was glad that they are finally producing results after many years in the wilderness.

“We believe that more glad tidings are to come as we continue to promote aggressively our mission to produce players of good calibre,” he said.

Tiong, who is also Pemasa Sibu coach, regarded Ho as a champion in the making with potential to go far.

As recently as August the youngster could only f inish fourth at the Inter- State Schools Championship held in Kelantan.

“Since then, Ho had been pouring in efforts as he trained at the Pemasa Sibu archery range to polish his shooting skills and techniques,” Tiong revealed.

The Pemasa Sibu archery range is the only archery range in the state that is privately owned.

Sibu sent six players to compete in the state championship namely Ho, Achmead Ckhalifh Alamien, Ayub Sabi, Berg Usry Suhaili, Liu Shiuh Heng and Wan Affandy.
