SDNU Sedaya in Kanowit to be launched this Sunday

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sedaya in Kanowit will be officially launched at the prize- giving ceremony of the branch’s nine- a- side football tournament this Sunday ( Dec 9).

Its branch chairman Ambrose Jarat said 10 teams will be taking part in the two- day tournament starting this Saturday (Dec 8) at SK Nanga Pedai field in Kanowit.

He said the branch started with more than 100 members but aimed to triple the number of members next year.

“This (active recruitment drive) is in line with SDNU president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom’s wish to see SDNU grow in size and voice in the top tier as well as at grassroots level despite it being a non- governmental organisation ( NGO).”

Mawan who is Pakan assemblyman had touched on the matter when officiating as guest of honour at SIDS Siol Kandis branch annual gathering at a hotel here last weekend.

He also appointed members into the four senior vice president posts, another four vice presidents posts in addition to elected three and another eight ordinary exco posts in addition to the elected seven posts at SDNU supreme executive committee ( SEC) meeting early last month to drive his point home,.

Ambrose said the branch has held several activities for branch and community members even before it got registered with the Registrar of Societies recently.

Representatives of SDNU supreme executive council and branches all over Sarawak are invited to the launch ceremony on Sunday.

Branch members held a work party (gotong royong) recently to carry out some repair work on the field and clear stones there to ensure it is ready to be used for the tournament. They also helped to paint perimeter lines on the field.
