Sunway Kuching open day is back for Jan intake

-

KUCHING: Kolej Sunway Kuching will be holding Open Day on Dec 8 and 9 from 10am to 4pm in conjunction with its upcoming January 2019 intake.

The occasion will give 2018 SPM, UEC and STPM school leavers the opportunity to meet counsellors, lecturers and management of Kolej Sunway Kuching to discuss education pathways and career opportunities.

Students and parents can learn more about four qualifications on offer at the college - Diploma in Accounting ( DIA), Diploma in Business Management ( DIBM), Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Those thinking of pursuing the DIA, DIBM, CAT and ACCA programmes can also use the event to check their eligibility for the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation scholarship. Candidates interested in applying are advised to visit the college during the Open Day with their results slip, as on-thespot eligibility interviews will be conducted.

Launched in September 2013, Sunway’s Diploma in Accounting ( DIA) consists of 30 subjects and can be completed in two and a half years of full-time study. The DIA is designed to provide a strong foundation in general aspects of business and accounting and equips students with effective skills to succeed as chartered accountants, auditors, tax consultants, investment bankers, commercial bankers, finance managers and portfolio managers.

Students of this programme will also have the opportunity to concurrently pursue a second diploma, namely Kaplan Singapore’s Diploma of Accountancy, alongside their DIA. To be eligible to enrol for this qualification, students must have passed SPM/O levels/ UEC with a minimum of three credits, including in Mathematics. They must also have passed English.

The DIBM, meanwhile, was inaugurated in March 2016. Like the DIA, the DIBM is a two- anda-half-year full-time programme encompassing 30 subjects.

The DIMB offers an in- depth business education, geared to professional practice, specialist careers, self-employment and to the demands of general management.

The course is structured to allow increased choice as it progresses and provides two specialist subject routes as well as generalist route from which students may choose, to meet their individual needs and career aspirations.

To be eligible to enrol for the DIBM, students must have passed SPM/O levels/ UEC with a minimum of three credits ( 3Bs in UEC). Students who complete this diploma will have the option to enter into Year 2 of undergraduate degrees at a number of good ranking universities. DIBM graduates can choose to pursue degrees in Sunway University Bachelor’s degree programmes; namely Business Management, Business Studies, International Business, Global Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Accounting & Finance.

Both the DIA and DIBM are approved by the Ministry of Education and recognised by employers throughout the country. Both qualifications also offer students a pathway to a business related degree.

Kolej Sunway Kuching has developed articulation pathways that allow DIA and DIBM graduates the option to pursue Year 2 of undergraduate programmes at a number of good ranking local and overseas universities.

Universities that will be accepting Sunway’s DIA and DIBM graduates are Nottingham University Malaysia Campus; Heriot Watt University Malaysia; University of Waikato, New Zealand; University of Canterbury, New Zealand; Birmingham City University; Cardiff University, Wales; University of Western Australia; Curtin University Sarawak and Australia; Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak; University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS); UCSI University; KDU University College; James Cook University, Singapore; Kaplan Higher Education Academy, Singapore; Victoria University, Melbourne; Australia Catholic University, Sydney and Sunway University.

CAT is a nine paper, technician level qualification designed by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK) to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to accountancy. The course can be completed within 12 to 18 months of full-time study and is recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency ( MQA) as equivalent to a diploma.

CAT is generally regarded as a stepping stone to the ACCA professional accountancy qualification. Upon completing CAT, students receive exemption from the three papers (Knowledge Module) at the Fundamentals Level of ACCA. To be eligible to enrol for CAT at Sunway Kuching, students must obtain a minimum of five credits in SPM, including in English and Mathematics.

ACCA is a world– renowned professional accountancy qualification which was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1904.

The association is the largest and fastest growing international accountancy body in the world. Armed with the ACCA qualification and three years of relevant working experience, graduates will be recognised by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and will be able to practise as qualified chartered accountants.

Unlike foreign accounting degree holders (for instance from countries like the UK, US, Australia or New Zealand), ACCA graduates do not need to sit for professional exams to qualify for MIA recognition as ACCA is one of the 10 overseas accounting bodies that is fully accredited by the MIA.

To register for ACCA, the student must have completed and passed one of the following - STPM (two credits in STPM plus five credits in SPM, including in English and Mathematics); the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification; or a diploma or degree from an MQA ( Malaysian Qualifications Agency) accredited university or institution.

The next DIA, DIBM, CAT and ACCA intake at Kolej Sunway Kuching will commence in January 2019. The college will also be offering three further intakes for DIA and DIBM in 2019 – in April, July and October, and one further intake for CAT and ACCA in 2019 – in July.
