SIBU: Citizen Eco-Tour 2018 is holding the third leg of its 100th year anniversary exhibition in Malaysia at the ground f loor of Wisma Sanyan here which started on Dec 6 and ends tomorrow ( Dec 9).

The Citizen Eco-Tour 2018 is the first watch exhibition that features Eco-Friendly concept in Malaysia.

Citizen Watches ( Malaysia) Sdn Bhd general manager Zentrix Chiu said at a press conference here yesterday Swee Hua Gallery Sdn Bhd, one of its top Citizen authorised retailers is coordinating the exhibition.

“The entire Eco-Tour consists of four key legs which started in Penang on Nov 29, followed by Kedah, Sarawak before concluding in Sabah,” he added.

He said the selection of Sibu for the Sarawak leg is deliberate since Eco- Mission practices apply to every city regardless of its size.

“With this Sibu tour, we hope to bring more awareness of the brand. We also hope that being the first brand to have such exhibition in Sibu, we can inspire other international brands to come to this town,” he said.

Chiu also said Sibu’s various ongoing green initiatives resonate well with Citizen’s very own EcoDrive concept.

He said throughout the exhibition, customers can enjoy up to 40 per cent off on selected models.

The organiser of the exhibition also presented RM2,000 to Sibu Autistic Association (SAA) at the same function

Also present at the press conference were Sibu MP Oscar Ling, Pelita Towerview Sdn Bhd’s operations manager Tony Hii, Swee Hua Gallery director Ting Wee Ming and SAA advisor Thomas Ling.

Meanwhile, it is learned that Quartz watches came into the market as a major breakthrough in watch industry in the 1970s amidst severe energy crisis.

Citizen realised the environmental issues caused by used batteries and began to develop a light- driven watch, which resulted in the world’s first light-powered analogue watch in 1976.

By 1995, when Citizen launched this innovation world-wide under Eco- Drive after overcoming numerous hurdles and continuing its Eco- Green mission, it did not go unnoticed and was awarded the Eco Mark product certification in 1996, which in turn witnessed Citizen becoming the first company in the watch industry to achieve the honour.

The continued efforts towards Eco Green practices peaked when it became the world’s first company to obtain the Gold Prize at the Eco Mark Award in 2014.
