Sarikei areas to experience planned water supply cut

-

SARIKEI: Several areas in Sarikei, Meradong, and Pakan are expected to experience a planned water supply interruption from 9pm on Tuesday (Dec 11) till 5am on Wednesday (Dec 12).

A statement from the Sarikei Divisional Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) said the temporary cut of water supply is to facilitate repairs on the 600mm DI (ductile iron) pumping main by Pan Borneo Highway contractors at Jalan Bulat.

Those expected to be affected are villages, longhouses, and shophouses along Jalan Jakar, Jalan Meruton, Jalan Sare, Jalan Jakar/Sebangkoi, Sungai Paoh, Jalan Bayong, Jalan Kim San, Jalan Wan San San, Jalan Tong San, Jalan Chung San, the whole stretch of Jalan Bulat in the Sarikei area, Jalan KJD, Bintangor town and surrounding residential areas, Bukit Papit, Sungai Sian, Selidap, Skim B in Meradong District, and the whole of Pakan District.

Beside these areas, residents on higher ground elsewhere in Sarikei and Meradong are also expected to experience low water pressure during the period, the statement said.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to store sufficient water to meet their needs during the stated period.

To minimise inconvenience, the department called on the contractor to complete the works on time or before the scheduled completion time. The statement added that upon completion of the pipe connection works, residents in Bintangor, along Jalan KJD, and Pakan District may continue to experience water supply problems as it would take some time for the water pressure to build up and return to normal.
