Fight against illegal gambling a priority — Kuching OCPD
KUCHING: The police are committed in the fight to rid the district of illegal gambling activities, says Kuching police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek.
He said from January to November this year, his men have executed 344 raids against illegal lottery operators and 72 against online gambling premises.

“Of the figure, 403 were held for selling illegal lottery tickets while the remaining 117 were arrested for online gambling,” he told reporters after leading a monthly gathering at Kuching police headquarters at Jalan Simpang Tiga here yesterday.
Ng also said police are working with the relevant agencies and local authorities to cut the electricity supply to illegal gambling dens to ensure these premises do no re- open after being raided.
“So far this year, we have cut power to 26 premises used as illegal gambling dens,” he said.
On cases involving Macau Scam, he revealed that there have been 42 police reports lodged so far this year in Kuching, compared to only 17 last year.
Ng noted that it is important that those who receive such calls remain calm and not fall for whatever the caller says.
“Such suspicious calls should be scrutinised and further verified by getting in touch with the relevant authorities. If there are any queries, the public may call our police hotline at 082244444,” he said.
