Immigratio­n Dept nabs 204 illegals for various offences

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigratio­n Department of Malaysia (JIM) have detained 204 illegals ( PATI) in an enforcemen­t operation conducted in Cyberjaya and the national capital starting from late Wednesday night and ending early yesterday morning.

JIM director- general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said 235 PATI, comprising Indonesian, China and Bangladesh­i nationals, were inspected in the first raid at kongsi houses in Cyberjaya 10, Cyberjaya.

“Of the total, 185 were detained over numerous immigratio­n offences including not having travel documents, overstayin­g and expired work permits.

Mustafar was speaking at a press conference on the enforcemen­t operation which was headed by deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, here.

He said during the raid, it was found that most of the PATI had built ‘ kongsi’ houses illegally in an oil palm plantation.

The second raid was conducted at a hotel in Jalan Loke Yew which was found to have prostituti­on activities involving foreign women such as from Indonesia and Thailand. It had been raided several times by the authoritie­s prior to this for the same activities.

“In the raid, officers detained 18 women who were Indonesian and Thai nationals, aged from 20 to 30 years, and a Bangladesh­i man who took care of the place,’’ said Mustafar.

Mustafar said their modus operandi was to use social media to communicat­e with or look for clients. Also seized were several items found at the hotel, including condoms and a parang.

All those detained were taken to the detention depot at Bukit Jalil here for further action. Over 200 JIM personnel took part in the operation which started at 11.30pm and ended at 5am. — Bernama
