Unifor presents RM560,000 in funds for religious projects
KUCHING: Unit for Other Religions ( Unifor) in the Chief Minister’s Department presented a total of RM560,000 in funds for the building and / or upgrading of five houses of worship in three state constituencies namely Nangka ( Sibu), Mulu ( Miri) and Tanjung Datu ( Lundu).
On hand to present the allocation to representatives of these projects at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra jaya here yesterday was Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is also the minister in charge of Unifor.
Out of the total amount, RM100,000 is for a Hindu temple in Sibu while another RM160,000 for a BEM church and kindergarten at Kampung Malinau in Mulu and another BEM church in Kampung Long Selaan, Ulu Baram.
Another RM300,000 was presented to St Stephen Church in Kampung Rayu Iban, Lundu and Evangelical Centre of Methodist church in Lundu.
Uggah said these five projects are part of the total 231 projects approved under the RM20 million allocation from the Sarawak government for 2018.
Last year, the Sarawak government allocated RM15 million for the implementation of 77 houses of worship projects in Sarawak.
Present to receive the cheques from Uggah were Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala and Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapa’ee’s special officer Suhaili Mohamed.
Gerawat is also the Deputy State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) Speaker and Dr Annuar, Assistant minister of Education and Technological Research.
Unifor director Datu Dr Ngenang Janggu and Deputy State Secretary Datu Jaul Sameon witnessed the handover of cheque ceremony.
