‘Prihatin@Stesen Minyak’ campaign to promote safety awareness

BINTULU: Serba Dinamik Group Berhad held its ‘Prihatin@ Stesen Minyak’ campaign at the Shell petrol outlet in Jalan Sibiyu here recently.

The safety advocacy programme which ran from 9am-11am was led by its East Malaysia and Labuan operation vice president Zainulabidin Ismail and its group HSSE manager Mohd Hafiz Nemor.

Also present were Shell Timur Sdn Bhd territory manager Najjah Nadhirah Mohd Nizar, Shell MDS Bintulu contract holder and cost controller Mohd Syahmizan Mahli and Shell Bintulu Sibiyu Service Station manager Liakat Ali Khan Rahmat Ali.

Zainulabidin said the campaign was part of Serba Dinamik’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Its main objective was to educate and promote greater safety awareness of the dos and don’ts while at the petrol stations among motorists.

This is especially so when they are filling their fuel tanks.

“There are few things that we highlighted when at the petrol stations like to turn off the engine, not using mobile phone, and also educating them on static electricity and no smoking.

Mohd Syahmizan meanwhile expressed his gratitude to the organiser for holding the awareness and safety campaign.

“I believe this is a very good initiative as nowadays we always hear about accidents and even fatalities at petrol stations,” he said.

Najjah concurred with Mohd Syahmizan’s view and lauded the organiser for initiating a really good CSR programme and initiative.

“This is something that Shell really takes seriously. We want our customers to be safe whenever they refuel at our Shell stations,” she said.

For Liakat, the petrol station manager, it was a historic day for them to be able to join in the safety campaign.

“Most customers don’t know the danger while they were in the station, for example by using mobile phone and using uncertified oil tanks,” he said.

Ignorance on the basic safety measures at the petrol station is most likely the reason why most motorists seem not aware of the danger. He hoped more safety awareness programmes can be carried out in other petrol stations to remind the public on the consequences of not complying to safety measures.
