Tung Fatt lion dance troupe receives state colours from Tasik Biru assemblyma­n

K UCHI NG : T a s i k Bi r u assemblyma­n Dato Henry Harry Jinep, on behal f of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah handed the state colours to Tung Fatt Youth Lion Dance Associatio­n at his office in MJC, Batu Kawah New Township yesterday.

Tung Fat t t e am wi l l be competing in the Lion Dance PoleJumpin­g category at the Malaysia National Dragon & Lion Dance Championsh­ip 2018 from Dec 14 -16.

Tung Fatt team comprises 25 members led by manager Melvin Romie Tommy. The team will leave for the championsh­ip at the Olympic Council Malaysia Hall, Kuala Lumpur, today.

At the same function Henry also handed over a Minor Rural Project fund to the associatio­n

Romie says every state in the country is taking part in the Lion Dance pole- Jumping category.

Despite a first- timer in the category at the national- level, Romie says his team aims to be a champion.

“If we can win the first place, we would then be representi­ng the country to compete at the world championsh­ip in Macau sometime next year. We have been training hard for the championsh­ip and hence, have high hopes of creating waves and hopefully emerge the champion at the championsh­ip,” he added.

Romie says Tung Fatt Youth Lion Dance Associatio­n has been active in the Lion Dance poleJumpin­g for five years. The team have also competed in the same category in Bintulu, Tawau and Sandakan.

Tung Fatt is also actively involved in charitable activities such as giving food rations to the needy in Kuching including Bau district.
