Third joint celebratio­n brings festive joy to Samarahan folk

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Farley Supermarke­t here and St Francis Anglican Church hosted their third joint pre- Christmas celebratio­n at the supermarke­t on Sunday evening.

According to the vicar, Rev Dennis Gimang, the main objective was to share the joy of Christmas with everyone in Kota Samarahan area.

“Like many places in Sarawak, the people of Kota Samarahan are from various racial and religious background­s. This celebratio­n is a display of unity and living harmonious­ly with one another,” he added.

Before the celebratio­n, a procession was held from the grounds of St Francis Church to Farley Supermarke­t after a joint Christmas service attended by Christians of various denominati­ons in Kota Samarahan.

The procession saw around 800 parishione­rs from Methodist Church, Kota Samarahan Baptist Church, Borneo Evangelica­l Mission ( BEM) Church, Roman Catholic Church, Presbyteri­an Church Malaysia, Sarawak Reformed Presbyteri­an Church, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Protestant Church of Sabah and the Anglican Church — bringing the magic of Christmas alive and filling the air with Christmas carols.

Also present were head of Unit for Other Religions ( Unifor) Datu Dr Ngenang Janggu, secretaryg­eneral for Associatio­n of Churches Sarawak, Ambrose Linang and other officials.
