Third joint celebration brings festive joy to Samarahan folk
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Farley Supermarket here and St Francis Anglican Church hosted their third joint pre- Christmas celebration at the supermarket on Sunday evening.
According to the vicar, Rev Dennis Gimang, the main objective was to share the joy of Christmas with everyone in Kota Samarahan area.
“Like many places in Sarawak, the people of Kota Samarahan are from various racial and religious backgrounds. This celebration is a display of unity and living harmoniously with one another,” he added.
Before the celebration, a procession was held from the grounds of St Francis Church to Farley Supermarket after a joint Christmas service attended by Christians of various denominations in Kota Samarahan.
The procession saw around 800 parishioners from Methodist Church, Kota Samarahan Baptist Church, Borneo Evangelical Mission ( BEM) Church, Roman Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church Malaysia, Sarawak Reformed Presbyterian Church, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Protestant Church of Sabah and the Anglican Church — bringing the magic of Christmas alive and filling the air with Christmas carols.
Also present were head of Unit for Other Religions ( Unifor) Datu Dr Ngenang Janggu, secretarygeneral for Association of Churches Sarawak, Ambrose Linang and other officials.
