Water supply problem in Kanowit to end soon — Rep

KANOWIT: Water supply problem in this town is expected to be resolved soon when the upgrading works on a water treatment plant at Bukit Memaluh here reach completion.

Machan assemblyma­n Allan Siden Gramong said the ongoing project costs RM680,000.

“I am aware of the water supply issue in Kanowit. I always raise this issue during the State Legislativ­e Assembly ( DUN) sitting as well as during meeting with the Upper Rajang Developmen­t Agency ( URDA).

“The Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom recently inspected the treatment plant and approved its upgrading,” he said when officiatin­g at a pre- Christmas gathering held at Rumah Banying Melina in Bukong here on Saturday.

Allan also said the project to build a road from Majau to Geremai here would be tendered out soon.

He disclosed that the Sarawak government had allocated RM50 million for this project.

“It will be easier for longhouse residents in the area to commute from Majau to Geremai and vice versa, when the road is completed,” he said.

Allan also disclosed that a bridge across the Kanowit River would be built in Machan.

This project costing RM20 million would be tendered out next year.

Meanwhile, he said Machan had been allocated with RM100 million under URDA for the implementa­tion of various people- centric projects in the constituen­cy.
