TM’s upgrading exercise to complete in first quarter 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Streamyx customers who are residing in non- Unifi coverage areas will have their existing speeds doubled up to 8Mbps for free, and where coverage is available, they can opt for the wireless 4G LTE service, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) said in a statement yesterday.

In clarifying what was said by Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister, Eddin Syazlee Shith, in Dewan Negara on Monday, it added that the upgrading exercise is being done in stages and is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2019.

To- date, Telekom Malaysia Bhd ( TM) has upgraded close to 60 per cent of over 340,000 Streamyx customers, who are residing in Unifi coverage areas, to Unifi at the same price as their current plan, while almost 70 per cent of customers in non-Unifi coverage areas have had their Streamyx speed doubled where technology permits.

“In order to affectively address the remaining Streamyx customers we are unable to upgrade, we look forward to a collaborative win-win approach with the government as well as with other industry players,” TM said.

Streamyx customers who are eligible for the speed upgrade will continue to be contacted via e-mail and phone.

Even so, TM would like customers to update their contact details via the Unifi portal or Unifi care app. — Bernama
