UMP-BASF MoU on transfer of technology

PEKAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang ( UMP) yesterday entered into a memorandum of understand ( MoU) with BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd ( BPC) for collaborat­ive efforts in the transfer of technology and developing human capital.

UMP vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Seri Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim said it involved seven major fields which would allow the university students and staff to benefit from the internatio­nal company’s expertise.

“These seven fields are the talent recruitmen­t programme, academic developmen­t programme, industrial excellence award, industry placement for staff and students, leadership and profession­al developmen­t, sharing of expertise in research, social services programme and sustainabi­lity initiative­s programme.

“The opportunit­y to work with BPC will allow UMP to benefit from their skills in technical know-how, optimising processes and human capital developmen­t,” he said.

Daing Nasir was speaking to reporters after signing the MoU at the UMP campus in Pekan here yesterday.

At the event, Daing Nasir and UMP assistant vice- chancellor ( Industry Partnershi­p and Community Relations) Professor Dr Jamil Ismail signed for the university while BPC was represente­d by its managing director Dr Sven Crone and human resource management director Zairul Alwi.

Daing Nasir said the MoU also involved research developmen­t and sharing of facilities, data, knowledge and expertise.

BPC also presented a replica of a RM10,000- cheque to UMP for the BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn. Bhd Excellence Award to outstandin­g students at every convocatio­n ceremony beginning this year, for five years. — Bernama
