YMCA Sibu welcomes all to Christmas event at civic centre this Sunday
SIBU: The Young Men’s Christian Association ( YMCA) of Sibu will host a ‘Joyful Blessed Christmas Celebration’ at Sibu Civic Centre this Dec 23, to run from 1.30pm to 5 pm.
YMCA Sibu president Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, the event would have a line- up of activities for visitors including a children’s colouring contest, ‘candlelight’ carolling, Christmas cakecutting ceremony, dance and choir presentations by pupils of Tadika Yakin, as well as the giveaway of Christmas gifts.
“Members of the public are invited to join the celebration, especially the younger generation,” he told reporters during a press conference here yesterday, where he was accompanied by his deputy Simon Tiong, YMCA Sibu assistant secretary Michael Wong, assistant treasurer Wong Ei Sing, officer-in- charge Jane Yii and event organising chairperson Teresa Lau.
According to Vincent, YMCA Sibu would host this celebration as an outdoor event, meant to spread the good news of Christianity.
“However, this year we have decided to host the event indoors due to the current rainy season, which could disrupt our plans should we host it outdoors,” he added.
On the children’s colouring contest, Vincent said the organiser had recorded confirmed participation from 300 children.
However, he said those interested could still register their names by going to YMCA Sibu office at No 50, Jalan Sie Poi Kieng here, or call Yii via 084-313 588.
The contest is divided into three categories – kindergarten, lower primary and upper primary.
Ten prizes, including trophies, are up for grabs.
Vincent said the objective of the colouring contest was to create awareness among the children of the meaning of Christmas and also the spirit of participation.
He said participants of the Christmas gathering would also stand to receive lucky draw prizes.
Vincent is expected to officiate at opening ceremony of YMCA Sibu’s Christmas event at 1.30pm.
