-

KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit conducted his usual walkabout in his constituency over the weekend to inspect the progress of several rural transformation projects ( RTPs) and minor rural projects ( MRPs).

The projects were recently awarded to contractors, with some being handled by Kapit District Council and others by the Resident’s Office or the Public Works Department.

“The funding for these RTP and MRP projects are from the Sarawak government, for the benefit of the people.

“I have to make sure the contractors do their job properly,” he said when met Monday on the final day of his inspection.

Among the sites and projects inspected by Jamit were the proposed construction of a storm drain in front of the Kapit Foochow Association multi-purpose hall; clearing works for a landslide at Gentulung Pelajau 2B which blocked the access road for some 20 families; proposed construction of a cement access road and retention wall at Rumah Jawang, Taman Yati; as well as temporary measures to prevent further erosion at KM3 Jalan Bukit Goram.

“The houses at Taman Yati here are close to one another. I have proposed a cement access road from the junction of Jalan Bukit Goram to link each home, as well as the construction of a retention wall on the slope to prevent erosion,” he said, adding the project for the access road and wall is worth RM150,000.

Councillor Liew Hui Hua was among those who accompanied Jamit on his walkabout.
