Mall’s first Christmas charity bazaar a big hit

-

BINTULU: Visitors have been thronging Naim Street Mall’s maiden Christmas charity bazaar, which is run to raise funds for the less-fortunate members of the community.

Thirty local businesses and social enterprises are taking part in the bazaar, selling various products including accessories, gifts, food, woven crafts and other decorative items.

According to Naim’s regional general manager for Bintulu, Abang Mahathir Mohamed, the mall’s priority is to bring together people from the neighbourhood and its surrounding communities, in addition to spreading the spirit of goodwill.

He adds that parts of the proceeds derived from the bazaar’s sales would go to charity.

“I am glad to see the strong support from the local community, based on the turnout over the bazaar’s first weekend. This event provides a free platform for small businesses and social enterprises to showcase their products, and encourage shoppers to support various worthy causes.

“I hope the community would continue to patronise the stalls before the bazaar concludes this weekend, on Dec 23,” he said.

Last weekend, the bazaar hosted various activities including a cooking demonstration by Tupperchef, carolling and choir performance by Bintulu Christian Protestant Association, music performances by Yamaha Greatland Music School, as well as workshops conducted by The Moments Florist and Sarawak Paperbeads.

Abang Mahathir said besides the bazaar, he also hoped that the local community would continue to support Naim’s ‘Giving Tree’ campaign, which concludes this weekend.

The campaign calls for the public to donate back- to- school supplies, books, clothes and gifts for children. “These items can be dropped off at our Naim Sales Gallery, from 9am to 6pm daily, throughout the campaign period,” he said.

Shoppers are also invited to take part in other activities that have been lined up throughout the week, which include Christmas carolling, choir performances, balloon-sculpture giveaways, and a ballet showcase.

Moreover, ‘Santa Claus’ will be making his rounds at the bazaar throughout the week, presenting great photo opportunities for the children.

Another major programme is a series of live concerts on Dec 22 and 23, featuring Nading Rhapsody, Jerry Kamit and Zee Avi.

Donations raised during this event would be channelled to deserving charities.

“In order to ramp up the festive mood, our Street Mall tenants such as Old Town White Coffee, Hi Fun Theme Playground, SCR, YOYOSO and KCSH are also offering shoppers great deals and promotional discounts. Shoppers shouldn’t miss out on these,” said Abang Mahathir.
