SGTA team returns from Sabah with 20 medals

SIBU: Exponents from Sarawak Global Taekwando Associatio­n (SGTA) collected seven gold, seven silver and six bronze medals at the Beaufort Malaysian Global Taekwando Federation ( MGTF) Open held at Pamusa Hall from Dec 9-10.

The gold medals were won by Ahmad Nazri Abu Bakar, Abang Mohamad Haikal ABang Mohamad Yazid, Nur Syakirin Zanudin, Nur Erisya Jefry, Syarfa Ilmani Salhi, Gladys Tiong Yii Ai and Emeldha Dellalynno Stalin.

The si lver medalists were Ashraf Nordiman Norman, Muhammad Ifran Syahmi Ramli and Brocklando Lesnar Stalin.

Falissa Farinna Muhd Zulhairie and the team in the pattern category contribute­d bronze medals.

SGTA president Abang Ahmad Zaini Abang Fauzan was delighted with the performanc­e especially since most of the athletes are new faces.

“Overall, we are very satisfied with what we had achieved since we did not expect to bring home medals in the first place.

“Most of our participan­ts are new and this competitio­n is their first game outside Sarawak,” he told reporters.

SGTA sent 17 participan­ts who competed in the Individual Pattern, Individual Sparring and Team Pattern.

The team manager was Noor Shafizza Yusof and Raden Hidayat Raden Perhan was the coach.

Zaini said SGTA would continue to send members to compete outside Sarawak next year as exposure. Already they have lined up championsh­ips in Beaufort, Perak and Kelantan for 2019.
