KUCHING: Gita has a new station chief, with Insp Gilbert Cinhin Simunga taking over from outgoing Gita police station chief ASP Omar Anis yesterday.

The handing-over ceremony was held at Kuching District police headquarters and was witnessed by district police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek.

Omar, who served as the station chief for four years, is transferred to the Licensing Division in Bau District police headquarters

Gilbert was formerly with Lundu District police headquarters, where he headed the Crime Prevention and Community Safety division.

In fact, this would be his (Gilbert) second time heading the Gita police station after he handed over the post to Omar in 2014.

Gilbert, in his short remarks, called on the Gita police station officers and personnel to continue to cooperate with him as a team.

“I look forward to continue Omar’s outstanding performance in lowering the crime index under the station’s jurisdiction.”

Meanwhile, Omar said the crime index under the Gita police station jurisdiction had declined every year, recalling that at one time the index was alarmingly high.

“In the past, Gilbert played a vital role in curbing and combating crimes here, and I hope his commitment will continue this time around,” said Omar.

On the same development, Ng reminded Gilbert to constantly monitor the areas under the station’s jurisdiction so that the security and wellbeing of the people in these areas are assured.

“This is because Gita police station covers a large area, which includes the State Legislative Assembly complex, Wisma Bapa and the areas have a huge population,” he added.
