S must maintain good corruption-free standard

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Economic Development Corporation ( SEDCO) must ensure that the effectiveness level of corruptionfree management is at a standard that the state could be proud of and at the same time enhance the positive image of the government, which could be translated into high customer satisfaction.

Its chairman Datuk Dr Richard Sakian Gunting said in order to achieve that goal, all staff members of SEDCO and its subsidiaries need a work ethic culture that fosters integrity, trust and free from any elements of corruption.

“As a government agency that facilitates the government in improving the financial, investment and socio- economic performance of the society, SEDCO is indeed an agency that is constantly facing corporate bureaucracy.

“Without staff that are trustworthy and with integrity, SEDCO would be the target of abuse of power and tendency of corrupt practices,” he said at the closing ceremony of SEDCO Group’s Anti-Corruption Pledge and Gearing up for Corporate Liability briefing here yesterday.

Gunting added that without the cooperation and commitment from all quarters, all planned objectives and aims could not be realised. Therefore, SEDCO will further strengthen the management of its integrity unit so that it could be maintained at an optimum and effective level.

He reminded the SEDCO personnel to not abuse the social media platform by issuing comments or statements that could jeopardise the government’s image and policies or issues that could violate the law or sensitivity in society.

“We should always maintain our ethics and integrity as well as always strive to use the social media as a tool to improve productivity and better results,” he said.
