KUALA LUMPUR: Three ministries, namely the Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry; Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry and the Economic Affairs Ministry, have yet to set up childcare centres at their respective premises, the Dewan Negara was told yesterday.

Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Hannah Yeoh said under the 2019 Budget, the ministry was allocated RM10 million for the setting up of 50 childcare centres at government buildings.

“With the allocation, there will be more childcare centres at workplaces , hence will help reduce the parents’s worry on their children’s safety,” she added.

She was responding to a question from Senator Muhamad Mustafa on efforts by the government in dealing with the dilemma faced by working mothers in sending their children to nurseries.

Yeoh said the ministry had implemented several measures and initiatives to encourage public and private employers to provide childcare centres at their workplaces.

The ministry also encouraged the private sector to set up nurseries at workplace to provide opportunities for workers in the B40 group to send their children there, she added.

She said the ministry was also discussing with utility companies to reduce the tariff rates for childcare centres. — Bernama
