M’sia re-elected to UN Commission on International Trade Law

-

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia was re- elected to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law ( UNCITRAL) during the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly ( UNGA) in New York on Monday.

The Foreign Ministry ( Wisma Putra) in a statement yesterday said Malaysia’s re- election for the six-year term of 2019-2025, was the manifestation of its international standing under the current leadership of Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

It said it was also a testimony of Malaysia’s credibility as an important player in promoting free and fair trade through the harmonisation of international trade laws.

“Malaysia will also continue to support the aspiration of UNCITRAL in promoting simplified business incorporation,” it said.

In this regard, Malaysia is currently implementing the Small and Medium Enterprises ( SME) Masterplan for the 2012-2020 term, aimed at accelerating the growth of SMEs vide innovationdriven and productivity-led strategies. Wisma Putra said Malaysia had indeed established its National e- Commerce Council ( NeCC) to drive the implementation of its roadmap towards doubling the country’s e- commerce growth rate.

“Malaysia, therefore, values the work of UNCITRAL and will continue to participate actively in the works of the commission,” it said.
