Items under Christmas Price Control Scheme can be sold below gazetted price

SIBU: The 13 items gazetted under the Christmas Price Control Scheme ( SKHMP) 2018 which is enforced from Dec 23 till 27 may be sold below the gazette prices.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs ( KPDNHEP) Sibu chief Roslee Maslie, however, said these items must be labelled with the pink price tag during the enforcemen­t period.

“No complaint if you sell them below the gazetted price,” he told traders yesterday during the launching of the festive scheme at Farley Supermarke­t here.

Administra­tive officer from the Resident’s Office, Awang Mohd Nizam, officiated at the launching ceremony. Also there were Farley Group manager Eijing Lau and Farley Sibu Supermarke­t manager Yeo Soon Teck.

On penalty, Roslee said for hiking prices of gazetted items, an individual is liable to a fine up to RM100,000 or imprisonme­nt not more than three years, or both, or compounded up to RM50,000 upon conviction

For company, he said it can be fined as high as RM500,000 or compounded up to RM250,000.

On failure to display pink price tag, he said upon conviction, an individual is liable to a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or compounded up to RM5,000, whereas a company is liable to a fine up to RM20,000 or compound of up to RM10,000.

The retail prices for the 13 items for Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau are RM6.70/ kg ( live chicken), RM8.50/ kg ( standard chicken complete with head, feet, liver and gizzard), RM9.50/ kg (super chicken without head, feet, liver and gizzard), RM7.90/ kg ( live old hen), RM12/kg (chicken wing), RM30/kg (imported bonein mutton), RM0.39 each ( Grade A eggs), RM0.38 each ( Grade B eggs), RM0.37 each ( Grade C eggs), RM7/ kg (tomato), RM15/ kg ( green pepper - capsicum), RM19.50/ kg ( pork belly) and RM18.50/kg ( pork lean and fat).
