Melissa Francis launches new album
KUCHING: Popular Iban and Dayak singer Melissa Francis chose the day before Christmas Eve (Dec 23) to launch her new album.
The singer was seen at E-mart Batu Kawa on Sunday not only to launch her album, but also to meet and entertain her fans with performances and a special meetand-greet session.
According to her father and publicist Francis Henry Basat, Melissa’s latest album entitled ‘Pengidup Aku’ contains seven songs; namely Pengidup Aku, AkaiAkai, Pabu Ai Mata, Nuan Di Empu Aku, Dek Jara, Cherita Drama and Pemutus Tua.
He said it is distributed and produced by Platinium World Network (PWN).
“The album took about a year to produce as PWN wanted an album that really has the quality wanted by both Melissa and PWN. Producers believe that by taking their time in producing the album, they will be able to produce an album that is worth the wait for the fans,” he said to reporters during the album’s launch.
For the record, Francis is also the director of PWN. Apart from Melissa, her singer and songwriter brother Hairee Francis also launched his album during the event.
Hairee, although attending the event,didnotmakeanyperformance as he had to make time to meet his fans.
Fans who were interviewed commented that they were excited to see both Melissa and her brother Hairee attending the same event as they are currently top singers and songwriters in the Iban music industry.
One of them said when she heard about Melissa’s album launch she made sure that she could attend the event as Melissa is her favourite singer.
Another fan commented that the event served as a good platform for Melissa’s fans to meet her and get to know her better.
“I am just excited to meet Melissa today as I am a big fan of her music. I bought all her albums and today I am glad that my copy of her latest album has her signature on it,” she said.
Melissa has won numerous awards in her singing career and it looks like she will not slow down any time soon in her career. Among her notable achievements are being crowned winner of the Sapa Juara Song Chart (ACSJ) in 2015 and winner of three categories during the Dayak Music Awards in 2016.
Also present during Melissa’s album launch were other local artistes such as Teelong T, Jeffrey Lawrence, Alex ( TVA Band) and radio DJs from Cats Fm and WaiFm.
