Walikota lauds Kapit District Council on exemplary governance
KAPIT: Year 2018 has been a special and fruitful one for Kapit District Council ( KDC), in that it is among a few local authorities ( PBT) in Malaysia awarded with a ‘4- Star’ rating by the federal government for exemplary governance.
Kapit Walikota Dato Philimon Nuing sees this as an outstanding achievement for KDC, in view of it being a rural PBT, with many areas under its jurisdiction yet to be connected with decent roads.
On the council’s Key Performance Indicators ( KPI), he is proud that KDC has implemented almost 100 per cent of its major developments slated for this year – including the town’s multi- storey carpark block, the Phase I and II of the Belaga Waterfront project, Phase II and III of the Song Waterfront project, and the Lily Pond beautification works.
He also mentioned the proposed improvement works on Kapit Town Square, of which the tender has just been awarded.
“The one yet to kick off is Phase II of Kapit Waterfront project. However, the project tender has been opened and currently, we are waiting for the evaluation report from the appointed consultant,” Philimon spoke during KDC’s annual dinner at a restaurant here recently.
On another council- related matter, the Walikota announced the extension of service of KDC secretary Jabang Juntan to another two years.
“Jabang has been performing well,” said Philimon, who also took the opportunity to thank Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan for his generosity in allocating RM50,000 to the KDC for the running of Song Dabai Festival 2018 recently.
Meanwhile in his remarks earlier, Jabang called upon fellow councillors and KDC staff to always exercise patience in carrying out their duties.
“Take every complaint positively and strive to solve problems – from both the short and long-term angles.
“I’m also hopeful that by next year, the relevant sections where the majority of the public complaints were forwarded to, would strive to improve their service deliveries.”
On the achievements of KDC staff, Jabang was proud that many of them received excellence service awards (APC) with markings of 85 per cent and above.
“Continue to maintain your good work, and serve with full dedication and integrity,” he advised.
The dinner, organised by KDC Sports and Recreational Club ( Kadico), also held the presentation of certificates of appreciation to club members serving in the 2016- 2018 term, a farewell tribute for a retired staff member Diong Saji, the presentation of APCs, and also the presentation of mementos to those sitting on the board of councillors for the 2016-2018 term.
