Avoid politics of confrontation, provocation — Penguang
MARUDI: Villagers here are advised to stay away from the ‘unhealthy’ political culture of provocation and confrontation practised by outsiders, but to instead utilise proper channels such as government agencies and elected representatives to air whatever grievances they may have.
Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said engaging in such unhealthy practices could cause a split within the community and ruin the image of the people.
“My advice to you is to not join NGOs (non- governmental organisations) if you do not know what their motives are. You should air your grievances through the proper channel such as your community leaders or elected representatives,” he said.
The Marudi assemblyman was addressing residents of Rumah Paberi Magelit at Sungai Meno, Tinjar here recently during a ‘meet-the-people’ session.
He called on residents of the Penan longhouse to work together to ensure they are not left behind in the Sarawak government’s development agenda.
During the session, Penguang took note of the various issues faced by the residents and later announced a sum of RM20,000 to the village security and development committee (JKKK), as well as RM5,000 to the women’s bureau.
The allocation is on top of the RM70,000 contributed by the assistant minister in the middle of this year for the longhouse’s electrical wiring.
Among those present with Penguang during the session were political secretary to the chief minister Alexander Asing, Marudi District Council walikota Edward Mendai and local community leaders.
