KAPIT: The contract and project site for the beautification of the Lily Pond here was handed to the contractor by Kapit District Council recently.

Handing over the document on behalf of the council to a representative of the contractor at a simple ceremony was its Walikota Dato Philimon Nuing.

The project to beautify the Lily Pond costs about RM11 million and is expected to be completed over 18 months from Dec 18 this year to June 17, 2020.

In his remark at the function, Philimon congratulated the contractor for being awarded the contract and expressed hoped that they could complete the project according to schedule.

“The project is a gift from the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, during his walkabout in Kapit. Thus I call on the contractor to carry out the job properly,” Philimon said and thanked the Sarawak government and the Chief Minister for the project that could help to chart a new landmark for Kapit.

The Lily Pond was constructed in 1989 and after almost 20 years the council was given the fund to redevelop it into a new landmark for Kapit town.

Also attending the handingover ceremony were the council’s secretary Jabang Juntan, Deputy Walikota Lawrence Listin Baling, consultants, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Pemanca Enggin Nyipa, Penghulu Pasang Tuba, councillors and senior officers of the council.
