Police: Make sure vehicles roadworthy, follow all traffic rules

KUCHING: Road users heading back to their hometowns during the festive season are reminded to follow all traffic rules and ensure that their vehicles are in road-worthy condition.

Sarawak Traffic Investigat­ion and Enforcemen­t Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, in giving the reminder, added that it is important for motorists to plan their journey and to behave responsibl­y and ethically while on the road.

“Obey all traffic rules to ease the flow of traffic and have your vehicles inspected to make sure they are in good condition prior to starting your journey,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.

“If you are sleepy, take a 15minute rest and avoid tailgating the vehicle in front. Do not obstruct traffic by driving slow on the right lane; obey signage along the roads and observe the set speed limit.”

Alexson also advised those who are leaving their home unattended during this period to notify the police of their absence so that patrols can be scheduled.

“Leave lights on in your house during your absence, and ask your neighbour to help keep an eye on your property. Make sure all doors and grilles are locked and, if possible, install an alarm system,” he said, while warning against keeping a spare house key under the floor mat or in a vase, or in the electricit­y meter box.
