Two boats seized, six arrested for fish bombing, drug activity

KUDAT: A police marine assault team detained two boats and six men in a special operation dubbed Operasi Gelora Khas here around 12.10 pm on Wednesday.

Sabah Region 4 marine police team commander, ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali, said the team arrested a pump boat and four men, who are believed to be involved in fish bombing activities, north of Straggler Island based on police intelligen­ce.

According to Pajeri, the suspects were aged between 30 and 50 years old and were not in possession of any identifica­tion documents.

“Among the items confiscate­d from the boat were six plastic bottles filled with urea fertiliser, one compressor, a compressor tank, two pump engines, 25 kg of assorted fish and eight red- coloured axis valued around RM8,090. The case will be investigat­ed under the Explosives Act 1957,” he said.

During the same operation in the Latoan waters near here, another fishing boat and two more suspects were arrested for alleged possession of drugs.

During a police inspection, a packet of clear crystal substance, suspected to be syabu, was found in a bag belonging to one of the suspects, Pajeri said, while the other suspect, aged 22, was brought into custody for not having valid documents.

“Both suspects would be investigat­ed under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63, respective­ly,” he said.
