Driver escapes injury in truck fire
KUCHING: The driver managed to escape from his burning truck which abruptly caught fire at Betong Junction yesterday morning.
A spokesperson of the Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call at 8.38am, believed to be the time the incident took place.
“We arrived at the scene and saw the tyre of a 10-tonne truck burning, and was spreading to the rear part of the vehicle.
“The fire was successfully put out a following a rescue operation,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying in a statement.
It was said that the fire destroyed 70 per cent of the vehicle.
“No injuries or fatalities were reported when he operation concluded at 9.23am,” the statement added.
