70 kids receive back-to-school aid from clan association
KUCHING: Seventy needy students received ‘Back to School’ assistance from the Youth wing of Sarawak Chai Clan Association recently.
Of the 70, 46 are primary school pupils and 24 are secondary sch Chai clan families from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions.
Each of them received school uniform, schoolbag, shoes and socks, stationery items, as well as coupons for eye screening and spectacles.
In his remarks, Sarawak Chai Clan Association president Penghulu Chai Khiun Khian urged the children of fellow clansmen to never let poverty hinder their desire to strive for success in education, stressing that education is a way to break out of poverty.
He emphasised the importance of higher education to face competition in their future career paths.
He said the association had set up a higher education loan for Chai clan children from the lower-income group.
Adding on, Khiun Khian praised the Youth members of the association for their initiative in running this activity to help needy students.
He expressed his hope that the donations given to the children would act as an incentive for them to strive for excellence in education.
Later, Khiun Khian announced a personal donation of RM3,000 to the organising committee of the project, hoping that others would follow in their footsteps by helping the poor and needy members of society.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Chai Clan Association Youth chief Chai Vui Sen said the objective of the programme was to ease the financial burden of parents from lower-income families for the new school year.
He hoped that more commercial firms and other clan- based associations would do more for needy families in the community.
“We also hope that our children would grow up to become responsible and compassionate citizens, willing to contribute their time and energy to serve the association, as well as to help the needy folk in the community in the future,” said Vui Sen.
