Bau to have own sports arena soon

BAU: The district will soon have its own sports arena, with facilities such as a swimming pool, futsal court, muaythai court, and clubhouse.

According to Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, a 10-acre land has been identified for the project.

“Bau will soon have several sports facilities under one roof. I must thank the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving this project,” he told reporters at his Christmas open house in Bukit Konis here yesterday, where acting Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and his wife Datin Amar Fatimah Mohd Iskandar were among the guests.

Nevertheless, Henry declined to talk more about the sports arena project, adding that the announcement would be made by Abang Johari at a later date.

Meanwhile, on the TondongSebuku bridge project costing RM7.5 million, and the RM17 million Buso-Musi bridge project here, the assemblyman said works would commence next year following the completion of the tender process.

He further said the Sarawak government had allocated RM110 million to continue with the water supply project in the district.

He disclosed that initially the RM129-million project was supposed to also cover Lundu, but it was later scrapped by the federal government.

“I regret that the federal government has scrapped the project, which should also cover the areas in Lundu.

“Now, the state government has approved RM110 million, but that (water supply) would be only for Bau,” he pointed out.

Henry also said there was no news about the proposed settingup of a Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) here, which he deemed as ‘vital towards ensuring security in the district’.

It is said that the RM30million CIQ project was requested two years ago.

Henry also took a swipe at Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol over the cancellation of the Basic Infrastructure Projects (PIAS) and Public Infrastructure Coordination Projects (PIA) worth RM455,000 for villages across this district.

“Mordi must realise that he is a politician from the federal government, one who should help to look out for more funds, instead of scrapping projects that would have benefitted the people.

“Mordi must prove to the people in the constituency that he can deliver and make extra efforts to help them.”

Henry then pointed out several federal agencies like Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) that Mordi could approach to talk about ways to help the people.

Moreover, he said Mordi should also help address the problems affecting SK Suba Buan and also the Serampit bridge project, by seeking more funds from the federal government.
