Kpg Muhibbah folk praised for upholding spirit of goodwill
MIRI: The Christmas celebration at the community hall of Kampung Muhibbah in Kuala Baram near here yesterday reinforced the meaning of the Malay word ‘muhibbah’ (goodwill), of which the village was named after.
The event hosted guests who came from various religious, racial and social background – all coming to celebrate the occasion with their Christian neighbours.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who was the guest-ofhonour, regarded the celebration as a testimony to Sarawak’s status as an exemplary model of racial and religious harmony.
“This is so befitting the name of this ‘kampung’ (village).
“The Sarawak government safeguards our unity by not allowing any form of extremism into Sarawak – be it religious, political or social extremism.
“As such, we must treasure and cherish the unity that we have in Sarawak,” Lee, who is Senadin assemblyman, said in his speech.
He also commended the villagers for always holding such gatherings in celebration of other occasions like Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak.
“We, Sarawakians, are brothers and sisters regardless of our religions. Thus, it is important that we maintain a united front and also uphold such religious freedom,” said Lee, who was accompanied by Piasau assemblyman Dato Sebastian Ting at the event.
